A significant step forward for Ashleigh Farms as we continue to invest in practical solutions for a more sustainable future.
From research to rollout
Over the past number of years we have worked alongside GlasPort Bio on GasAbate, a treatment scientifically proven to reduce ammonia, methane, hydrogen sulphide and odour from pig slurry at source. GasAbate is now being rolled out on our own sites. The rollout will cut emissions by approximately 1,000 tonnes of CO2e per year on one farm alone, independently verified by The Carbon Trust.
A 50 kW farm-scale biogas unit
As part of the rollout, we are building a 50 kW farm-scale anaerobic digestion unit. It will generate renewable electricity and heat directly from GasAbate-treated slurry produced on site, significantly offsetting our grid energy use, and will also produce high-quality fertiliser in the form of digestate. Our work with GlasPort Bio has shown a real improvement in biogas yield from stored slurry treated with GasAbate.
Thank you
We are grateful to the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) for their support through the RD&D programme, to the GlasPort Bio team for the partnership, and to our AD technology providers, ARB Process Engineering and CHP provider Nick Peacock. None of this would be possible without the hard work and commitment of the entire Ashleigh Farms team.
